The tourism-promotion activity should be a matter of continuous concern of any society that wants to become a sought tourist destination, in order to stay permanently in the focus of tourists traveling to visit new tourist destinations.
The experience of developed countries in tourism-related matters shows that, no matter how rich the tourist potential of a country is, the development of this sector cannot be achieved by itself, but only through a close collaboration between the business environment and the state in terms of tourism promotion.
To alleviate the problem of low visibility, several countries aiming to become popular tourist destinations have created Tourist Information Offices or Tourism Information and Promotion Centers.
Cahul Tourist Information Center was founded in 2013 by the Agency for Cross-Border Cooperation and European Integration to implement the strategy of capitalizing on the many opportunities enjoyed by the municipality of Cahul, both as a domestic and foreign tourist destination, as a development center of business, academia, healthcare, etc., as well as as a starting point for other objectives and tourist routes in the southern part of the country. The center is located in Horelor Square, on Victoriei Boulevard. Renovated and furnished in an elegant and pleasant style for any tourist, the center is equipped with a computer, a video projector, a camera, an exhibition stand with collections of materials that promote regional specificity, a mobile stand, and four quadricycles waiting for tourists to visit the places of the municipality. There are several such tourist information centers in the Republic of Moldova, including in Chisinau (83 Stefan cel Mare Blvd., in the Chisinau City Hall building) and Tiraspol (left bank of the Nistru, Sovietskaya Street, 135).
Galați app. Recently, for the promotion of Galați County, a much easier option of updating and distributing information has been chosen, a way accessible to the general public in the country and beyond. Instead of centers, the variant of an application was chosen: Galați app, available both in the App Store and in Google Play. The application offers the possibility to access information in Romanian and in English. The main advantage of using the application is that the tourist can get all the necessary data even before reaching the actual information/tourist center. This concept is eco-friendly, considering the lack of maps or printed materials that might not even contain up-to-date information and the reprinting of which involves additional costs. The Galați app, (https://galaticityapp.ro/?locale=ro) is structured in seven categories: “Discover Galați”, “Accommodation”, “Useful for tourists”, “Gastronomy”, “Transport”, “Free time and fun” and “Stores”.
The first category “Discover Galați” includes data on architecture, museums, churches and monasteries, zoos, natural attractions, etc. (data about the Danube Bank, Domnească Street, Children’s Town, TV Tower, or the Roman Camp from Tirighina-Bărboși). In the “Accommodation” section are listed the available accommodation units grouped according to their type: hotels, pensions, and hostels. “Useful for tourists” contains data on travel agencies, and the list of guides and information centers will be added. Restaurants and wineries are included under the heading “Gastronomy”. “Transport” is divided into public transport, car, and taxi. “Free time and entertainment” contains information about pubs, bars, clubs, cafes and confectioneries, sports and adventure, fishing, horse riding, etc. The “Stores” section contains details about malls and bookstores. Moreover, all the cultural-artistic events and plays are featured in the app.
Tourist information centers provide visitors/tourists with information about locations, events, accommodation, tours, wineries, itineraries, and offers of tourist companies. Inside the centers, tourists have access to interactive information panels, where they can find information about possible destinations. At the same time, tourists benefit from free consultation as well as leaflets, brochures, and postcards, so that they can organize their stay down to the smallest detail.
Several structures are involved in promoting tourism in the newly formed Reni territorial community.
At the community level, a Reni Town Council department for the development of culture and tourism has been established where relevant qualified specialists dealing with tourism development issues work.
The development and promotion of tourism in the community are achieved through close cooperation between the business environment, local public administration, the government, and the public.
